One of the methods employed for recovering heavy oil for
example, in Venezuela is that of injecting steam into the
oil reservoir. The steam, which is injected through boreholes,
increases the reservoir pressure and lowers the viscosity
of the oil. This enables oils of originally high viscosity
to be recovered from oil sands and oil shale.
