Named ECO II (ECOnomical and ECOlogical),
the prototype compressor is based on the
well-proven design concept used for ’
conventional centrifugal compressors, but
using the very latest materials and technologies.
It employs a high-speed induction motor,
powered through a variable speed drive system
(VSDS). The motor stator is oil-cooled, and the
integrated ‘squirrel-cage’ gas-cooled rotor is
equipped with maintenance-free magnetic
bearings also cooled by gas: a ‘canned’ concept.
