Operating in this mode, the
heat pump normally causes heat to flow from
the industrial or domestic cooling application
into a closed circuit or district cooling system,
where the heat pump cools the water before it
is distributed again to the customers. The heat
thus generated is distributed by the district
heating system. If a large cooling power is required,
the heat can be discharged into the
virtually infinite heat-sink ‘radiator’ represented
by the subsoil, lake or sea.
